Barley can often be seen in front of adults and children. This is a fairly common condition that many people do not take seriously. It is also called pisyak, abscess. Barley is an acute inflammatory process of the hair follicle.
There is pus inside it, and the sebaceous gland can also become inflamed. It is usually located near the cilium bulb. The inflammation develops as a result of a blockage in the hair follicle or gland.
Pisyak, located on the eye, delivers a lot of discomfort to a person. If it appears often and the inflammation does not go away for a long time, this is a reason to think that there are serious disorders of the immune system. In this case, you should consult a doctor.
Usually, barley on the eye disappears on its own after 4-5 days, a maximum of a week. A purulent head on a swollen eyelid may not be, or it breaks through and pus comes out. It is impossible to remove the abscess on your own, otherwise you risk bringing in an infection with subsequent complications.
Types of barley
Barley on the eye can be external (the head is visible) and internal, only the swelling on the eyelid is visible.
- With external inflammation, the abscess is located at the edge of the eyelid, an abscess forms on the outside of the eyelid. It develops as a result of infection of the surrounding tissues.
- If the pussy on the eyelid is internal, the head with pus may be absent, but the swelling on the eyelid will persist. The abscess is located on the inside of the eyelid. It occurs due to infection and subsequent inflammation of the meibomian glands. They are located in the middle of the eye at the very base of the cilia. The glands maintain moisture in the eye, prevent tears from evaporating from their surface. In the case of clogging of the glands, the inner pisyak can lead to the development of an inflammatory process of the sebaceous gland.
Why barley occurs, risk factors
It is often believed that inflammation on the eyelid can appear as a result of hypothermia, but this is not entirely true. Hypothermia is only a risk factor that leads to the fact that the immune system is weakened and increased susceptibility to the bacterial environment.
Other causes and risk factors include:
- the causative agent is Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus in the body;
- blockage of the duct of the gland;
- colds;
- weak immunity;
- non-observance of personal hygiene: the use of someone else's cosmetics, towels, dirty hands;
- hypothermia;
- lack of vitamins in the body;
- viral infections (ARI, ARVI) and other chronic diseases;
- disorders of the digestive system;
- demodicosis (ciliary mite) and blepharitis (inflammation of the edge of the eyelid);
- diseases of the stomach and intestines;
- furunculosis;
- helminthic invasions;
- period of pregnancy.
Barley symptoms
- The appearance of pain.
- Redness and swelling of the eyelid.
- Itching and burning in the area of inflammation along the ciliary edge of the eye.
- Lachrymation.
- Feeling that there is a blockage in the eye.
- The presence of an abscess on the edge of the eyelid is yellow.
- Swollen lymph nodes.
Complications
- Chalazion is a dense knot on the eyelid.
- Orbital cellulitis - the orbit of the eye, the cornea and the optic nerve become inflamed.
- Chronic infection - constant fatigue, frequent colds and relapses.
How to treat pisyak for a century, traditional medicine
As a rule, the abscess opens itself after a week. But if the patient has a fever, severe headaches, pain in the eyes, an abscess interferes with seeing normally, turns into conjunctivitis, in which pus and mucus come out of the lacrimal duct, you must immediately go to a specialist.
He will prescribe medication to reduce the inflammation.
- These are ointments, "Tetracycline", "Gentamicin", "Erythromycin", drops, "Albucid", "Ophthalmoferron", "Tsipromed";
- Antibiotics, they destroy the favorable environment for the development of inflammation.
The ointment is applied over the eyelid and on the area of the abscess. It is necessary to put the medicine on the pussy with a clean cotton swab and use a new one every time. In addition, immunostimulants are prescribed, they increase the immune system. These are vitamin and mineral complexes, echinacea, dietary supplements, dry brewer's yeast.
Physiotherapy procedures for such a disease are rarely prescribed. They can be prescribed for frequent relapses and when antibiotics are ineffective. There are several types of procedures, they are mainly warming up.
If the abscess greatly disturbs and interferes, then the pisyak is treated with the help of a surgical intervention. The doctor will gently open it with a needle or make a small incision over it to release the pus. The doctor may also suggest removing the eyelash if the tissue around it is infected. It is impossible to resort to such procedures on your own, as well as to squeeze out the abscess itself. Such manipulations should only be done by an experienced doctor.
Folk remedies, home treatment
Traditional medicine uses antimicrobial and antibacterial agents for treatment, alcohol solutions: brilliant green, ethyl alcohol, and ultraviolet light. However, barley can be cured with folk remedies. They are equally effective. From folk recipes, tinctures, herbal decoctions, honey are used.
Effective recipes.
For the treatment of pisyak, 10 types of effective folk recipes are offered:
- Herbal infusion. Mix half a glass of chamomile and St. John's wort, add boiling water, cover on top, wrap with a towel and leave until it cools. Then strain, treat the abscess with a sponge dipped in the infusion. Wipe eyes every hour;
- Hypericum infusion. Brew half a glass of St. John's wort with a liter of boiling water and drink it instead of tea;
- Cabbage with protein. Grind a fresh cabbage leaf in a mortar, add one chicken protein or two quail eggs, mix. Put the contents on a cotton cloth and apply to the abscess 4-5 times a day. In this case, the eye must be closed;
- Dried fruits. Pour a glass of dried fruits with 400 ml of warm boiled milk and take 2/3 of the glass before meals, 30 minutes in advance, along with a spoonful of honey. Take three times a day, course - 7 days;
- Honey cake. Pour half a teaspoon of honey on a saucer, soak a crumb of rye bread in it, make a flat cake. Apply it to the eye, stick with a plaster, hold for 6-8 hours. Do this several times;
- Calendula and St. John's wort. Mix 100 g of calendula and St. John's wort flowers, add a glass of hot water. Cover, wrap and leave until cool. With a ready-made product, wipe the abscess and eyelids. Repeat the procedure 5-6 times a day for 5 consecutive days;
- Garlic tincture. Take half a clove of garlic and half a teaspoon of vodka. Chop the garlic until gruel, put in a glass container, add vodka, cover and leave overnight. In the morning, strain and lubricate the abscess with a cotton swab 3 times a day. Course - 4 days;
- Plantain. Wash fresh plantain leaves, dry and attach to sore eye overnight. It is necessary to treat barley with plantain when the first symptoms of the disease appear, then the remedy will be effective;
- Aloe juice. Make lotions from aloe juice. It must be diluted with water, proportion 1/10;
- Egg. Boil an egg and apply to the eyelid as a warm compress.
These 10 recipes are considered effective. You can also use brilliant green. Smear the sore spot 4-5 times a day. At the same time, close the eye so that alcohol does not get inside. Brilliant green is applied with a cotton swab and each time the stick should be new and clean to avoid re-infection.
In addition, it is necessary to regularly cleanse the skin around the eyes, where pus and crusts accumulate. To do this, you can use a little baby shampoo diluted with water. Moisten a sponge and wipe your eyelids, then rinse your face with water. Until the inflammation passes and the eye is healthy again, you should not use cosmetics.
Prevention measures
So that barley does not bother you:
- you must try not to freeze in cold weather;
- observe personal hygiene (do not wipe yourself with someone else's towel, cosmetics);
- do not rub your face with dirty hands;
- regularly treat contact lenses with a sterile solution.
Barley on the eyelid is a consequence of the inflammatory process of the hair follicle or sebaceous gland. It can be accompanied by pain and discomfort.
As a rule, the eyelid becomes red, inflamed, a purulent head forms on it, which opens on its own after 4-5 days. However, there are times when you have to resort to the help of a doctor so that he can open the abscess himself and prescribe the appropriate treatment.
