Previously, people with poor eyesight were forced to wear glasses, and there were practically no alternatives. It was not always convenient, aesthetically pleasing, so the appearance of contact lenses made many people happy. Nevertheless, there are various kinds of problems with them, for example, the eyes hurt from the lenses.
In such cases, you need to figure out what provokes discomfort, and immediately start solving the problem.
Are they always to blame?
The joy that glasses can be replaced with soft comfortable devices that are almost invisible to prying eyes, with their help to improve vision, quickly disappears when discomfort appears. If your eyes hurt in the lenses, you want to take them off as soon as possible, and this will be the right decision.
The fact is that normally such a problem should not arise, and if it does appear, it must be eliminated as soon as possible. This is due to the fact that such inconveniences can lead to additional problems with vision, the eyes themselves.
There are many reasons for this phenomenon, but you need to know that the lenses are not always to blame for the eyes hurting. A provocateur of discomfort can be quite trivial - a speck, an eyelash caught in the eye. In this case, the device must be carefully removed, cleaned, and forget about this problem.
Another reason for the phenomenon that has no relationship with "contacts" is bacterial keratitis, which develops due to contact with the eye or on the lenses of pathogenic microorganisms. Bacterial keratitis must be treated in order to prevent the disease from getting worse, to cause complications that can be quite serious.
Causes of the phenomenon
The soft "film" seems to be almost a miraculous device for those who want to correct their eyesight, but refuses to wear glasses. Nevertheless, do not forget that when wearing lenses, you must be careful, monitor the condition of the "contacts", since they can be damaged, dirty, deformed, etc.
Often, it is due to improper care of them and the eyes themselves that various problems occur, including the organs of vision begin to hurt.
But this is not all the reasons, but they are.
Corneal hypoxia
Oxygen is transported to the eye tissue by means of the lacrimal fluid, and this process is disturbed with prolonged wearing of "contacts". It is important to understand that these devices cannot be worn all the time, and even more so to sleep with them, and such cases are also not uncommon.
With prolonged disruption of oxygen transportation to the eye tissue, hypoxia occurs in an acute form, and if the problem is not resolved, then it goes into a chronic stage. With the development of the disease, a well-visible vascular network appears in the eyes, and even over time, this disease can provoke a drop in vision. In any case, it is accompanied by pain in the organs of vision.
Dry eye syndrome
The problem lies in the disruption of the production of tear fluid, which wets the eye tissues. The phenomenon can be aggravated by frequent and prolonged interaction with a computer, which is often characterized by the fact that its user blinks much less often than usual. Dry eyes are irritating and painful, especially when a person puts on the device.
Allergy
It can arise due to many factors, but if we talk about lenses, then it can happen because of them - the human body can react in this way to the material from which the "contacts" are made.
Chemical damage
It is necessary to regularly clean contact lenses, for which special solutions are used. But sometimes agents with aggressive substances are used, which cause damage to the "contacts". In this case, wearing them can result in both discomfort and pain caused by a chemical burn of the cornea of the eye.
Mechanical impact
It occurs when the wrong approach to the selection of contact lenses (for example, the wrong diameter, fit). In this case, the mucous membrane of the eye is damaged. If this problem is not resolved in time, ulcers on the cornea may develop over time, followed by infection. To avoid this, the choice of "contacts" must be entrusted to an experienced ophthalmologist.
What to do?
If your eyes hurt while wearing lenses, first you need to remove the first ones, see if a speck, a speck of dust, an eyelash, another foreign object, or contamination has got into the eye or on the surface of the "contact".
In addition, you need to examine the condition of the lens itself - whether there is any damage or any defects on it. If none are found, rinse the device thoroughly and then try putting it on again.
If your eyes still hurt, remove the "contacts" and immediately go to the doctor.
The examination will help the ophthalmologist determine what is the cause of the problem, and only then outline a strategy for further action.
It is not worth trying to eliminate the phenomenon on your own, because there are many reasons why eyes from devices can hurt, and some of them are pathological processes that must be urgently eliminated using special means.
When wearing "contacts", it is important to consider two important rules:
- Your eyes get tired of adaptations, so they need nutrition, prevention and elimination of irritation and microdamage. To do this, you need to regularly use special drugs;
- Eyes can hurt due to dryness, which often accompanies the process of wearing "contacts", in connection with which there is a need to use ophthalmic agents of the "artificial tear" group.
Solcoseryl
The drug is a gel with a regenerating effect. In addition, it gives nourishment, hydration, and protection to the eye tissues. The tool helps to relieve irritation, heal microdamages.
The medication comes in the form of a gel that is used directly on the eyes.
The preparation contains the following components:
- Deproteinized dialysate (the main component of the drug);
- Sorbitol;
- Disodium edetate dihydrate;
- Sodium carmellose;
- Benzalkonium chloride.
The agent should be used by instilling it (the gel has a liquid consistency) into the conjunctival sac before putting on the “contacts” and after removing them in the amount of 1 drop / each eye.
There is only one strict contraindication to the use of the medication - hypersensitivity to its components. Only after consulting a doctor should the product be used by pregnant women, mothers who are breastfeeding.
Artificial tear
There are many drugs included in the group with this name and having a similar effect, and this one is one of the most effective. The drug moisturizes the eye tissues, protects the cornea from negative external influences.
Regardless of whether the eyes hurt from the lenses or not, everyone who wears them should use such drops in order to avoid such problems.
The drug contains:
- Hypromellose (active ingredient);
- Boric acid;
- Edetate disodium;
- Macrogol;
- Histidine hydrochloride monohydrate;
- Sodium tetraborate;
- Sodium chloride;
- Potassium chloride.
"Artificial tear" must be instilled into the conjunctival sac several times / day, when the lenses are not worn, in the amount of 2 drops / each eye.
If there are infectious eye diseases or hypersensitivity to the components of the product is observed, the product cannot be used. Only a doctor should prescribe medication to pregnant women, nursing mothers, as well as if the patient has chemical burns of the conjunctiva, cornea.
Prophylaxis
When your eyes hurt from vision-enhancing devices, you should immediately contact an ophthalmologist, but you can prevent this by following these recommendations:
- To keep your eyes from getting tired, put on "contacts" only when necessary, and in no case should you sleep in them, and also wear them without taking them off for several days in a row;
- Do not forget to use drugs that nourish, moisturize, protect the eyes;
- To prevent dry eyes, from which they can also hurt, regularly use drugs of the "artificial tear" group;
- Under no circumstances allow anyone to put on their lenses, even if it is about your closest relative;
- "Contacts" should be changed periodically. Do not skip the deadline when it should be done, as this is another reason why your eyes hurt from contact lenses.
Finding out why this problem has appeared, you can fix it faster, but it is necessary for a doctor to help you with this. And it is better not to allow such troubles at all, especially since the implementation of preventive measures will allow you to do this.
