Worms are a very unpleasant disease. You can observe these parasites in children and adults, but, as practice shows, the child's body is affected more often. Modern medicine defines the presence of worms in the human body by the term helminthiasis.
This is a very dangerous disease, because parasites living in the body can affect various internal organs. Their waste products are toxic and detrimental to the body.
Treatment of worms is a serious process and requires special attention. This is especially true for children. Medicines against helminthiasis are very toxic, so they cannot always be used for a child. In this case, you can use folk remedies. Alternative medicine represents a lot of such remedies, but not all of them have been confirmed to be effective.
Therefore, these methods should be used with caution.
When should you start antiparasitic therapy?
How does the body become infected?
Children are at risk of helminthiasis. Reproduction of parasites occurs in several stages: they lay eggs inside a person, but with feces they are excreted. They can enter the body again only through the mouth.
And this happens in the following cases:
- Eating food with unwashed hands. Sometimes, after playing in the sandbox or in another place, the baby, without washing his hands, eats something. At the same time, the eggs of parasites can enter the body and continue their vital activity already in it.
- After playing with pets. Worm eggs can live on the fur and skin of animals, so after playing with them, you should also wash your hands. In addition, special attention should be paid when cleaning animals.
- When eating raw food. Products, especially meat and fish, must be fully heat treated. Otherwise, parasite larvae may remain in them and, when eating, enter the baby's body.
- When playing in open earthen soil or swimming in a polluted body of water. Some types of worms are able to maintain their vital activity in water and land for a long time.
It can be concluded that the main reason for infection with helminthiasis is non-observance of basic hygiene rules. How to recognize that a child has worms, what symptoms do they cause?
Symptoms of helminthiasis
The main sign of parasite infestation in children is a deterioration in well-being. The child becomes lethargic, capricious, gets tired quickly.
In addition, there are a number of signs indicating an attack by worms in the body:
- Abdominal pain, especially in the navel area;
- Frequent itching in the anal area;
- Decreased appetite and weight loss;
- Bad sleep;
- Increase in body temperature up to 38 degrees;
- Nausea, sometimes vomiting.
These are the most common symptoms. Having noticed them, you need to start treatment. To make sure that there are worms, it is better to get tested. This is a simple process and the results are known within a few hours. After confirming the analysis, it is worth choosing a treatment method.
Folk remedies against worms
Modern medicine offers drugs that act on parasites from the inside. However, they contain strong active ingredients that can cause side effects. Treating children can be made less harmful by using folk remedies. There are many of them, below are examples of those that have passed the tests and confirmed their effectiveness.
Pumpkin seeds
The first place in the fight against worms is occupied by pumpkin seeds. They contain a rare amino acid, cucurbitin, which has a detrimental effect on parasites. Treatment with this method involves taking raw seeds daily for a week.
The dosage must be observed:
- Up to 7 years old - 150 grams;
- From 7 to 10 years old - 200 grams;
- From 10 to 15 years old - 300 grams.
You can also make milk from pumpkin seeds. To do this, you need to pass the seeds through a meat grinder. Then pour two glasses of boiling water and boil in a water bath over low heat. Milk should be infused for at least 12 hours. After that, strain the pumpkin mass through cheesecloth and the milk is ready for use. For a young child, a liquid composition is suitable, and the pumpkin oil formed on top is for children from 10 years old and adults. The effectiveness of this method will be much higher if cleansing enemas are carried out in parallel.
Tansy
With the help of this plant, parasites can also be removed in a fairly short time. This is one of the most popular methods, especially for getting rid of roundworms and pinworms. Tansy contains thujone, a specific essential oil that paralyzes worms. But, at the same time, it acts on the patient's nervous system.
Treatment of helminthiasis with this method can only be used by people who weigh 30 kg or more. In addition, making a decoction of tansy requires caution. The dosage is very important. For a glass of water - no more than one teaspoon of dry herb. You can take the remedy no more than three times. Side effects include nausea, diarrhea, and increased blood pressure.
Garlic
This remedy is very widely used for treatment. It has antiparasitic, antimicrobial and antiviral effects. It also improves overall immunity. Garlic prophylaxis involves eating the product daily in small doses.
For medicinal purposes, garlic is used raw. To remove worms, you need to crush three cloves of garlic and pour a glass of milk. Milk softens the pungent taste of the product. For children, one spoon of such milk is enough before meals for three days.
Garlic changes the acidic environment in the intestines, and the worms rush to leave it without harming the patient. But this product can act on the cardiovascular system, so before treatment you need to make sure that the child does not have an intolerance to garlic.
Fresh juices
It's no secret that freshly squeezed juices are very healthy for children. But some of them can also actively fight worms. You can also add honey to the juice for greater efficiency. He is able to remove parasites living in the intestines. Against helminths, you can use the following juices: carrot, pomegranate, coconut, beetroot. You can also drink apple cider vinegar, rosehip tincture, and sauerkraut liquid.
Drink these drinks twice a day: in the morning on an empty stomach and before bedtime, 200 ml. For babies under 6 years old, you can reduce the dose. They will help not only remove parasites from the body, but also fill it with vitamins and minerals.
Hemp and flaxseed oil
You can prepare this remedy yourself, or you can buy a ready-made one at a pharmacy. To make oil at home, you need to peel the seeds from the top peel and grind in a blender. Then pour boiling water over and digest again. The butter does not taste very good, so it can be used with honey or spread on bread.
Treatment involves taking this remedy for 3-4 days. You need to give your baby one teaspoon before meals twice a day. The course should not be prolonged, these seeds contain essential oils, which in large quantities can negatively affect the child's body.
Walnuts
For the treatment of helminthiasis, not only the kernel of the nut is used, but also its pericarp. This remedy can be prepared at home. You need to take walnut fruits during the ripening period and grind them in a meat grinder. Pour the resulting mass with three liters of boiled water and leave for a week, shaking it daily. If the product will only be used for adults, you can add 100 ml of vodka to speed up the reaction. However, alcoholic beverages should not be included in the therapy of children.
After seven days, strain the infusion and refrigerate. Take two teaspoons of tincture on an empty stomach with plenty of water.
Alternative methods are considered additional in the treatment of helminthiasis. It is worth noting that in the case of an advanced stage of the disease, it is better to use traditional medications and be under the supervision of doctors. In addition, treatment of children is useless if preventive measures are not taken together for all family members. The development of helminthiasis is a very dangerous phenomenon and can cause a variety of diseases.
Therefore, in order to protect the child from worms, firstly, he needs to be taught to the rules of personal hygiene, and, secondly, to carry out regular preventive measures. Even by consuming small doses of anthelmintic products daily, parasite infestations can be prevented.
