The skin is the largest organ in the human body in terms of volume and weight. The skin, more than other organs, is exposed to the negative influences of the environment, since it is obliged to protect the body from overheating, hypothermia, intoxication, etc.
One of the most common dermal diseases is skin fungus. Many people mistakenly believe that only the nail plates, hands and feet are exposed to fungal infections. In fact, fungus can also occur on smooth skin, and on the most delicate and sensitive parts of it - for example, under the breasts.
Fungal diseases under the breast (in women - under the mammary glands) is a superficial lesion of the skin by Candida fungi. Candidiasis "loves" wet harm, so it is primarily formed in the skin folds.
The causative agents of candidiasis are part of the opportunistic human microflora and are present in a completely healthy body. However, under the influence of negative factors and a decrease in immunity, they pass into a painful stage.
This disease occurs in people of all ages - from newborn babies to the elderly. Most often, fat people suffer from the ailment, as well as women with large drooping breasts.
Symptoms of the fungus under the breast
Candidiasis of the skin begins with the appearance of slight swelling and various types of rashes: these can be blisters, pustules or papules. Over time, these formations open up, burst, and weeping erosions appear in their place, which merge with each other and form exactly limited areas with wavy or jagged edges. The surface of these areas is shiny and even, has a whitish coating.
There are several types of fungus that affect the chest and the area under it:
- erythematous form, which is characterized by swelling and redness of the affected skin;
- vesicular, in which the affected dermis becomes covered with pustules and vesicles.
The fungus under the breast can be chronic and acute. In the acute form, the breast, mammary glands and areas under it are covered with erosions several times a year, and after therapy they disappear completely or become less noticeable.
Treating chronic fungus under the breast and mammary glands is more difficult and lasts longer. Against the background of concomitant diseases, the chronic form, if untreated, can turn into generalized and cause pneumonia, bronchitis, anemia, osteoporosis, disruption of other organs and systems of the body.
The disease is accompanied by such a symptom as severe itching, sometimes painful sensations occur.
Causes of the disease
A fungus can appear under the mammary glands and breasts as a result of a decrease in immunity. Factors that compromise the immune system include:
- bad habits - alcohol abuse, smoking, drug use;
- poor nutrition;
- excess weight, obesity;
- lack of treatment for chronic diseases;
- unhealthy environmental situation (living in ecologically unfavorable areas where there is an increased level of radiation, air pollution);
- long-term treatment with various drugs;
- poor adherence to the rules of personal hygiene.
Diagnostics and treatment
If swelling or rash is found on the mammary glands or under the breast, it is necessary to urgently consult a dermatologist. The doctor will conduct an examination, prescribe the necessary tests and recommend treatment.
To diagnose the disease, a specialist prescribes an enzyme immunoassay of dermal cells taken from the affected areas. This allows you to determine the number of Candida fungi, on which the treatment will depend.
In addition, the patient is recommended to pass a general analysis of blood, urine, immunogram to identify possible concomitant diseases.
Targeted treatment of candidiasis of the skin under the breast and mammary glands consists in prescribing antifungal agents to the patient.
These include antimicrobial antibiotics such as Nystatin. This antibiotic affects pathogenic fungi, and especially the yeast-like genus Candida.
The medicine is produced in tablets. Adults are prescribed 500,000 IU of the drug 3-4 times a day; children who have reached the age of three - 1,000,000 to 1,500,000 units.
On average, treatment with Nystatin lasts from 10 to 14 days, but if necessary, the doctor can adjust the duration.
Also, the patient is prescribed antifungal ointments - for example, Clotrimazole. This synthetic preparation for external topical use has an antibacterial and antimycotic effect on the affected skin.
Clotrimazole cream or ointment should be applied to the affected areas of the skin under the mammary glands three to four times a day. Before rubbing in the ointment, wash and dry the skin. After the procedure, you need to wash your hands well. It is unacceptable to use the same tube of medicine for several people at once.
The drug is well tolerated, but some people may develop allergic reactions to its components. In such situations, treatment with Clotrimazole should be stopped and another ointment should be used.
Clotrimazole treatment usually lasts up to one month. After the acute symptoms disappear, the doctor may extend the course of treatment until the rash on the skin disappears completely.
In addition to antifungal therapy, the doctor prescribes treatment for concomitant diseases and immunostimulating therapy.
The patient also needs to follow a special diet, in which it is important to minimize the intake of easily digestible carbohydrates, in particular, to exclude sweets, pastries, fast food, carbonated drinks from the menu.
During the period of treatment (and after recovery), personal hygiene must be especially carefully observed, to ensure that the mammary glands and the skin under them are always clean and dry.
Folk remedies are also used to treat the fungus under the breast.
- Tea tree oil. The affected skin should be lubricated with tea tree oil 4 times a day. Before the procedure, you need to wash well with soap and dry the skin.
- Tincture of calendula. An alcoholic infusion of calendula should be treated with the dermis affected by the fungus 3 to 5 times a day. This method is not suitable for children and pregnant women.
- Infusion of yarrow, burdock, wormwood and plantain. Pure dry herbs must be mixed in equal proportions. Pour one teaspoonful of the mixture of herbs into a glass container, pour 200 ml of boiling water, cover and let it brew for at least 5 hours. Wipe the damaged areas under the mammary glands daily with a cotton swab dipped in herbal infusion. You can use fresh infusion only for one day, the next day you should prepare a new infusion.
Prophylaxis
Since the herpes virus Candida is present in the body of absolutely all people, it is impossible to get rid of it. However, it is quite capable of preventing the transition of fungi to the painful stage.
To do this, you need to monitor the personal hygiene of the mammary glands, take a shower every day, and prevent the formation of diaper rash under the breast.
It is very important to maintain the immune system. To do this, you need to eat right, eliminate bad habits, use vitamin and mineral complexes in spring and autumn as prescribed by a doctor.
It is impossible to treat the fungus under the mammary glands on your own, as this can lead to a worsening of the patient's condition.
