Most of the population suffers from heel spurs. This disease does not pose a threat to life, but it creates many inconveniences.
Why do spurs form?
A heel spur can develop in every person.
This is a specific growth on the heel bone, which is shaped like a thorn.
The cause of this disease can be excessive leg tension during long walking or when wearing uncomfortable shoes with heels.
A factor that provokes the formation of a spur on the heel can be excess weight, which often occurs due to metabolic disorders.
Heel spur symptoms
The formed growth on the heel bone can only be seen on an X-ray, but a person feels the symptoms of its appearance immediately. With the resulting growth, the patient experiences severe pain when walking.
Particularly severe pain in the morning, after waking up, or after prolonged sitting, when the leg was at rest, and then pressure is exerted on it. The pain can be punctate or spread throughout the foot.
Medication treatment
Heel spur treatment with medications is one of the most effective ways to get rid of this ailment. They are used to reduce the inflammatory process and stop the further development of the disease, act as a pain reliever.
The attending physician, orthopedist or surgeon, prescribes a course of medication. For these purposes, drugs are used for general or external use. Physiotherapy procedures are often prescribed.
At home, applications and compresses with various drugs in the form of gels, creams and ointments are used to treat heel spurs.
One of the most common methods is the treatment of heel spurs with Dimexidum. This drug is used as an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. "Dimexide" is quickly absorbed into the skin and penetrates deep into the tissues.
Release form of the drug "Dimexid":
- Concentrated solution. When using the solution in a ready-made form, a burn may form on the surface of the skin. Therefore, for use, it is necessary to reduce the percentage of drug concentration by 1, 2, 3 or 4 times (determined by the attending physician);
- The ointment contains from 30 to 70% of the substance. It is intended for external rubbing;
- The gel contains 25 or 50% "Dimexidum". It is applied to the inflamed area and rubbed in with smooth movements.
Ointment and gel are rubbed into the heel in the morning and evening. To enhance the effect, you can use compresses, for the preparation of which "Dimexide" is used in combination with other drugs.
To prepare a compress, you need to prepare a bandage, fold it into 5-7 layers. Cut out a circle to cover the entire damaged area. Lubricate the heel with an anti-inflammatory ointment, which is used to treat spurs. Then moisten the prepared bandage with "Dimexide", previously diluted with water to the desired concentration.
Apply a bandage soaked in a medicinal solution to the inflamed area, cover with cellophane on top and insulate. The leg should be at rest for half an hour, after which the compress is removed. This procedure is carried out 12-15 days in the morning and in the evening.
Medical bile treatment
Treatment of a heel spur with medical bile is quite effective. It can be purchased at pharmacies. Since ancient times, healers have used animal bile to prepare a medicinal potion. In pharmacology, the substance of pigs is used.
To prepare a solution based on bile, it is combined with formalin, furacilin and ethyl alcohol. The finished composition is packed in a container of 50, 100 and 250 milliliters. It is intended for external use.
The mixture is effective for diseases of the musculoskeletal system, therefore it is often used to treat heel spurs at home. The solution, prepared on the basis of bile, has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and absorbing properties.
The bottle must be shaken well before use, the drug is stored in the refrigerator. This solution is used to prepare medicated compresses to relieve heel pain.
To prepare the compress, a cotton cloth cut to the size of the inflamed area is moistened with a bile solution and applied to the heel. The top is covered with cellophane and insulated.
The procedures are carried out within a month. If necessary, the course can be repeated after 6-8 weeks.
Before using the drug, you need to familiarize yourself with the contraindications that are indicated in the instructions.
Iodine to treat heel growth
Many people prefer to be treated with folk remedies. An iodine alcohol solution is often used to combat the heel spur. In addition to antiseptic properties, it has a number of others. It is used alone and in combination with other drugs.
When an outgrowth occurs on the heel, vertical and horizontal lines are made with iodine, which form a pattern in the form of a mesh. In this area, blood circulation increases and metabolism improves. This procedure relieves inflammation.
For the treatment of heel spurs with folk remedies, in particular with iodine, its combination with analgin is used. To prepare the mixture, you need to crush 4 tablets of analgin into powder and add them to 105 ml of iodine. Leave the composition in a dark place for 24 hours. Lubricate the sore heel with this solution no more than once a week.
Preparation of iodine-based ointment
To prepare the mixture, you need to combine 55 ml of iodine, 25 grams of honey and 7 grams of fine kitchen salt. Stir the mass and apply on the sore heel in the form of a compress. The ointment is applied to a gauze pad, covered with cellophane and fixed with a bandage. A warm sock is put on top.
The procedure is done overnight. In the morning, you should not immediately remove the bandage, you need to walk around with it for half an hour. Then remove the compress and wash your leg. Repeat the procedure for five days in a row.
Iodine with aspirin for the treatment of spurs
To prepare the solution, crush two tablets of acetylsalicylic acid and combine them with 10 ml of iodine. Stir the mixture and immediately apply the mixture to the sore heel. Cover with cellophane, fix the compress and put on a sock.
The procedure must be done in the evening every 3 days for a month and leave the compress overnight.
Preparing mixtures for getting rid of spurs based on iodine with the addition of medication helps to completely get rid of the disease.
Compresses
With honey
Spread homemade honey on the sore heel and top with two tobacco sheets. Fix them with a bandage and put on a sock. The procedure is carried out at night for five days.
From radish
Wash the black radish and grate on a fine grater, without peeling the skin. Apply the resulting gruel in the form of a compress overnight for five days. Be sure to wash your leg in the morning.
With cabbage leaves
Combine 25 grams of honey and 15 ml of vinegar. Pour boiling water over a cabbage leaf and chop. Combine cabbage with honey mixture and apply like a compress to a sore spot. You can use burdock leaf instead of cabbage.
To relieve pain when walking, you can prepare special insoles. To do this, you need to cut the insole from the porous rubber to the size of your foot and make a hole in the place where the spur is.
You can put a small rubber ring in the shoes under the sore heel or roll up a tourniquet from a soft material. This will relieve pressure on the affected area of the heel.
When symptoms of a heel spur are detected, medications and treatment are prescribed depending on the individual characteristics of the body.
