Rheumatism is a fairly common disease that is caused by staphylococcal and streptococcal infections. It has been known since time immemorial, because even Hippocrates and his followers tried to fight the inflammatory process in the joints and connective tissues.
It must be said that for the most part their efforts were unsuccessful and led to subsequent life-long disability. It is not surprising that the term "rheumatism", meaning "outflow," is of Greek origin. Ancient Greek healers believed that a certain fluid emanated from the patient's brain, contributing to extensive inflammation of the joints.
Therapy with medicines or folk remedies - which is more effective?
A serious breakthrough in the treatment of rheumatism occurred only in the 60s of the XX century, when, finally, medications began to be used in treatment.
Although this was preceded by an equally important event of the 19th century, when the Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Buyot and the Russian doctor Grigory Ivanovich Sokolsky, independently of each other, managed to recognize all the distinguishing features of this disease, distinguishing it from a number of similar symptoms.
But even in modern conditions, rheumatism does not change itself, remaining multi-symptomatic, which significantly complicates the choice of treatment tactics. Moreover, rheumatoid processes can affect not only joints and muscle tissues, but also any internal organ. The disease is characterized by systemic autoimmune processes, when after infectious diseases (chronic tonsillitis, scarlet fever, acute respiratory disease) provoked by streptococcal and staphylococcal antigens, the production of specific antibodies is turned on.
They are hyperactive and begin to destroy their own body.
With traditional drug treatment, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory drugs are used. In the acute course, antibiotics and glucocorticosteroids are used. Since preschool children and adolescents suffer more often, due to the weakness of the immune system, such funds cannot but leave a negative mark on health.
While the luminaries of medicine have been looking for an effective remedy for rheumatism for more than one century, the people have accumulated hundreds of recipes to combat unbearable bodily pains that often accompany symptoms such as swelling, redness, and rashes on the surface of the skin. I must say that it is not entirely correct to raise the question of what is more effective.
After all, the doctor is guided by the golden rule, which says that the lesser of two evils should be chosen. The sooner the diagnosis is made and treatment is started, the less the pathology will leave consequences. In adulthood, it often manifests itself as a relapse to a once untreated disease.
Non-traditional methods of treatment are not possible, and even need to be adopted, but only after visiting a doctor. As mentioned above, the correct diagnosis, since the symptoms are ambiguous, can only be made by an experienced doctor. For this, methods of collecting anamnesis, laboratory research and differentiation of similar signs are used in a complex. Relying on this or that folk recipe, you need to know what exactly it helps.
Indeed, under the general term - rheumatism, rheumatic are hidden:
- carditis (heart complications);
- polyarthritis (rheumatism of the joints);
- pleurisy (inflammatory process of the respiratory system: lungs, bronchi, pleura);
- erythema (rheumatism of the skin);
- chorea (vasculitis of the vessels of the brain).
Understanding the specific features of the disease will help to correctly differentiate the methods of traditional medicine. Some of them will be advised by your doctor.
Treatment of rheumatism with folk remedies for internal use
Since even the drug treatment of rheumatism is quite long, you should not expect a lightning-fast cure from folk remedies. One of the prerequisites for any type of disease is proper nutrition.
Therefore, at home, it is quite acceptable to supplement a therapeutic diet with useful herbal ingredients that help relieve inflammation and strengthen immunity. When reducing salt, excluding hot seasonings, it is recommended to saturate the diet with fruits and berries.
From fruits, advantages should be given to watermelons (in the summer-autumn season). Any dishes made from blueberries, lingonberries, cranberries are useful.
Lemon water is drunk 30 minutes before meals: juice from 1/2 lemon in a glass of hot water. In the same way, you can drink green tea before meals or just boiling water with the addition of 1/2 tsp. vinegar essence and 1 tsp. crushed chalk. Another option is when 2 tsp is taken for a glass of hot water or tea. grape or apple cider vinegar. The effect of this drink is due to its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties.
To increase the body's resistance to ailment will help:
- medicinal vitamin "tea" with raspberries (30 g of berries per glass of boiling water);
- decoction of sea buckthorn berries with leaves (1 tbsp. l. raw materials per glass, boil for 20 minutes);
- a mixture of celery juice with carrot in a ratio of 3: 7 and others.
For the preparation of decoctions and tinctures for the treatment of rheumatism, the following popular herbal ingredients are used:
- dogwood roots;
- birch leaf;
- burdock root and leaf;
- calamus roots;
- Dzungarian aconite root;
- corn silk;
- flowers of lilac, chamomile, clover.
Honestly, you can list it endlessly, because you can not get around the even more famous nettles, elecampane, yarrow, wheatgrass, oregano. The universal proportion of herbal for oral administration is about the same - 1 tbsp. l. raw materials are poured with a glass of boiling water. Depending on the selected ingredients, something is infused under a lid or in a water bath, something else is boiled.
The course of treatment is usually 1-2 months, intermittently. When making a choice between an aqueous infusion and an alcoholic one, you need to be guided by the degree of effectiveness. So, for example, a tincture of rosehip roots will not give that positive result if it is cooked in water.
For her alcohol version, you will need 1.5 cups of crushed roots and 50 ml of vodka. Insist for a week, shaking occasionally. Consume 1 tbsp. l. 3 times a day, gradually bringing the rate to a glass.
Garlic tincture (40 g per 100 ml of vodka) is drunk 2-3 times a day, only 10 drops. Oregano will need only 10 grams per 150 ml of alcohol, 75% strength. Take 30 drops per dose.
Such methods of treatment cannot replace medicines in the acute course of rheumatism, although they also have antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, tonic and other useful properties. But as an addition to the main treatment, they will be very useful.
External applications, rubbing alcohol and ointments according to folk recipes
For rubbing painful areas on the body with rheumatism, use:
- a mixture of black radish juice, honey, vodka and salt in a ratio of 3: 2: 1: 0, 5;
- bitter pepper tincture combined with 2 parts of vegetable oil;
- vegetable oil (200 ml), infused with bay leaves (30 g);
- mustard tincture (1 tablespoon per 1 liter of vodka);
- tincture of ficus leaf (2 pcs. for 200 ml of triple cologne).
Cabbage leaves, raw potato gruel, steamed birch leaves, fresh cow dung and even live bees are used as applications and compresses on sore joints. The latter is believed to be very effective.
However, it should be approached with caution to avoid allergies. As a basis for homemade rheumatism ointment, goose fat, internal lard, homemade butter or regular pharmacy petroleum jelly are used. To this you can add dried birch leaves crushed into powder, needles, aconite roots.
Effectiveness of baths for rheumatism
Foot baths or full body baths for rheumatic pains have been known for their healing powers since the 17th century. The most common recipe is sage. You can prepare it yourself or buy it at a pharmacy. For 1 bath, 1 pack of raw materials is enough, which is infused in 3 liters of boiling water for 40 minutes.
The main effect is not so much even in the grass as in the temperature of the bath water.
It should be hot (40 degrees). The 15-minute stay in the bath should be repeated after 3 days, but the water has already been made 1-2 degrees hotter.
Thus, a course of treatment of 19 baths should be carried out, while reaching a maximum residence time in hot water of 45 minutes at a temperature of 55 degrees.
Those who have experienced such treatment on themselves claim that even a course of 10-12 procedures makes it possible to forget about the disease for ten years.
For those less obsessed with the healing process, there are many less harsh procedures when the bath is filled with water with a decoction of chamomile flowers, clover, thyme. Treatment with salt baths will help relieve pain in the joints of the legs. You can take both regular and sea or iodized.
